Crappy PR of The Week: Skiing Now Officially Cooler Than Snowboarding, Claims Monarch Airlines

Monarch Airlines, the self-proclaimed 'skiers airline' (which I suspect might make then slightly prone to bias in their research), and respected judges of what is or isn't cool (see above photo), have conducted some dubious research to show that skiing is cooler than snowboarding...

SKIING NOW OFFICIALLY COOLER THAN SNOWBOARDING, MONARCH AIRLINES RESEARCH REVEALS

Snowboarders may be in for a surprise this winter as skiing is now seen as the ‘cooler’ of the two sports, recent research has shown.

Monarch Airlines surveyed over 700 people across the UK and found that nearly 60% of those surveyed feel skiing is cooler, compared to 40% for snowboarding.

"over 700 people" - that's just 0.001% of the population so it's not a very thorough study.

Interestingly our quick survey of 1,564 respondents (twice the size of the Monarch one) revealed that Monarch we're just a bit shit.

This just arrived in my inbox so it's fresh off the press. Keep an eye out for this crappy story in the mainstream press over the next few days. It's classic lazy journalist fodder so it might get some coverage.

For any press release fans out there, here's the full version:

SKIING NOW OFFICIALLY COOLER THAN SNOWBOARDING, MONARCH AIRLINES RESEARCH REVEALS
Snowboarders may be in for a surprise this winter as skiing is now seen as the ‘cooler’ of the two sports, recent research has shown.
Monarch Airlines surveyed over 700 people across the UK and found that nearly 60% of those surveyed feel skiing is cooler, compared to 40% for snowboarding.
It seems neither ski nor snowboard enthusiasts are caught up with looking cool on the slopes, with 92% saying they don’t feel the need to buy the latest and most fashionable clothing and accessories.
Monarch Airlines’ research found France (44%) to be the most popular destination for skiers and snowboarders, followed by Austria (23%), Italy (12%) and Switzerland (5.6%).
Monarch Airlines is fast becoming the ‘skiers airline’ with over 160 European ski resorts in France, Switzerland, Australia and Germany within easy reach of its winter destination airports – Friedrichshafen, Grenoble, Innsbruck and Munich  – which are served by regular flights from the following UK airports; Birmingham, Leeds Bradford, London Gatwick, London Luton and Manchester.
The research found the cost of a ski or snowboard holiday remains a potential deterrent from taking a winter sports holiday with 77% feeling that they are too expensive, but with flights, including taxes, starting from £23.99 one way (£61.26 return), Monarch Airlines offers excellent value for money.
Furthermore, the carrier offers clear, transparent pricing so that passengers can immediately see the price they pay to fly. Taxes and charges are included all the way along, ensuring no nasty surprises.
Skiers and snow-boarders can find the latest information on each of Monarch’s ski resorts through a 360° degree virtual ski slope guide, ‘Monarch Mountain’. Users are able to navigate around the mountain by moving and tilting a smartphone or tablet; accessing the latest snow reports, a live feed with the up-to-date flights to Monarch’s ski destinations, and videos and tips from the Ski Club of Great Britain - all designed to ensure skiers and snow boarders have everything they need to hit the slopes this winter.
